This Old House

The past several months have been swamped by house renovations.

We have started in the living room:

-Painted the walls

-Painting the ceiling

-Ripped up the carpet

-Scraped up the hateful glue on the concrete (currently in the process)

And also worked on the kitchen:

-Painted the walls

-Got new baseboards

-Painted the baseboards

-Got new cabinets

-Painted the cabinets

-Bought and installed a microwave/oven vent

-Bought and installed a dishwasher

-Bought and will install a stove/oven

I must say, this is a tedious, crowding, life-threatening process… *sigh*

miniMAP ‘08-’09

miniMAP – 2008-2009…. what a long awaited event… It takes a long time to just write out what happened so I’m going to post pictures and tell the story that goes with them. Hopefully that will cover all of my bases. =)

Winter Wonderland

Here in Louisiana it truly is a ‘Winter Wonderland’. It HAS to be, for a couple days ago it was bright and sunny… now it’s SNOWING! I know you northerners have no concept of our feelings right now, but believe me… that white stuff is awesome! We even get up at 5 in the morning to see it!

Of Dogs and Women

Last Friday, my sister, Josie, happily announced that she wanted a garden. Now, previous gardens suggested were ones planted in old canoos , toilets, bathtubs… you know… the stuff you find in people’s garbage. My dad quickly vetoed those pieces of legislation and Saturday, he went out and got some lumber. He built a small bed for Josie, and delegated the duties of picking up cow ‘presents’ for compost. I, along with Daniel, went out and started to pick up the biodegradable chips. This soon turned into a war of… who can dodge the  best. Anyway, skipping forward a bit to today, I found Josie outside, contently working in her garden.

It seems as though she wasn’t the only one diggin in the dirt. Read the rest of this entry »

Louisiana Chainsaw Massacre

After hurricane Gustav came through and did a thorough job with our yard we, of course, had to get all excess waste out. This included a lot of cutting up of trees and large limbs. We figured the best way to make easy work of this was to use a chainsaw. Somehow, I get the impression that my dog would rather us have used rusty spoons to cut the tree into pieces…

Pyropsycotic

Hurricane Gustav blessed us with a lot of branches, limbs, sticks, logs, twigs etc. I believe the only good thing that came of this is that my dad got to have some fun. =) I get the feeling he would hate to be a fireman… putting out all those beautiful fires an’ all.

Here comes the Bride…

Last weekend was the joyous union of my cousin, Amanda, and my friend Terrel, in marriage.

It was a very nice wedding, held down at the old governor’s mansion. My other friend, Robbin, who also happens to be Terrel’s second cousin performed the ceremonies. Read the rest of this entry »

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!

This is just a quick post to wish a Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there! May God bless you and guide you as you continue to carry out your duties as a father! Thank you!

 LOVE YOU DAD!!

Nationals!

For the past couple days I have been re-cooping from the sleepless_energy_draining_event that took place last week. As you may know, I compete in the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) speech and debate. From my “Regionals” post that I wrote a while back you will see that I qualified to Nationals in two speeches. An Open Interpretation (OI) which is an interpretation of any piece of literature of your choice, and a Duo Interpretation (Duo) which consist of two people acting out a piece of literature.

*Footnote* – In Duo Interpretation the partners are not allowed to look at each other, touch each other, or touch the ground with anything but their feet.

Last week was the National Tournament. I will start off by saying that I didn’t break to simi-finals in either of my events but that’s ok as you will see later in this post.

I had an extraordinary time! Nationals gave me the opportunity to allow me to meet other Christian Homeschoolers across the nation as well as hang out with my old friends.
