The Box

Darkness surrounded by six sides

Whatever it contains it hides

Ancient things from history holds

Safe from rust and moth and mold

Though many kings it may preserve

It doesn’t receive the praise deserved

Twilight fades, the sun may shine

But darkness stays within six sides

A Writer’s Notebook

Waiting to hold, this book of trees

Fading thoughts and memories

The quill dipped, the candle lit

Upon the leaves, an epic writ

Firmly planted, thoughts take root

While the fire burns to ash and soot

The pen, a messenger of the mind

Writes the words which soon may shine

The gardner is done, steps back and sees

The thoughts on leaves in this book of trees
